Fall Cleanup - Leaves in Gutter

Getting the house ready for fall

With winter just around the corner it’s time for you to be getting the house ready for fall.  Our fall checklist will help you prioritize your projects!  Click more to see the list…

Clean out the eavestrophe to prevent frozen water from creeping up under the shingles and leaking into the house and downspouts are working and directing water away from the house

Turn off the outside taps at the INSIDE shut-off valve, open the outside tap to drain any remaining water and store the hose either inside or drain it and keep it outside

Tune up the snowblower and get the shovels out and ready

Replace the batteries in the programmable thermostate (if they quit in the night the house can get pretty chilly) and the smoke detectors too if it’s been a while

Replace the furnace filter to remove summer allergens and ensure the humidifier is clean and working

Clean the dryer vents, remove the lint filter and clean it with clean water, vacuum inside the dryer lint area before replacing the lint filter and check the exterior vent cover for lint (and birds)

Check the washer hoses too at this point for cracks or leaks

If you are planning a winter holiday and will be turning the water off at the main, check it now to avoid any last minute surprises with a stuck valve
